Legacy giving has gained prominence in NI over the past five years in particular. Initiatives such as Will to Give, have managed to develop a more positive and empowering message to  this method of fundraising.

This one day training programme will examine:

  • What are charitable legacies?
  • How do you design an effective legacy fundraising strategy
  • What should from your legacy marketing messages?
  • How to better connect with your legacy prospects?
  • How to ensure appropriate cultivation and stewardship?
  • Effective evaluation and monitoring of legacy activity.


This will be an interactive session, with a number of case studies highlighted throughout.

At the end of this programme, you will have greater confidence and understanding in:

  • A new way of talking about legacy giving.
  • Developing a strategic approach to legacy giving that connects with your donors and supporters.
  • Understanding the different types of legacy marketing activity and what will work for you.
This session will be led by Karen Gallagher and Elley Martin

Karen Gallagher Consulting

A Professional Fundraiser with 15 years’ experience in fundraising and fundraising management. Karen has delivered multi-media, integrated marketing and fundraising campaigns with exceptional results. She has consistently delivered above average returns on investment while ensuring organisational strategic objectives on brand awareness are met.

As a key member of the Individuals Giving team at Concern Worldwide, Karen delivered donor recruitment and engagement campaigns across the UK and Ireland, contributing to doubling the income and growing the regular giving file by over 6,000 supporters.  During her time as the Northern Ireland Director of Concern Worldwide, revenue grew by 30%.

More recently, as Interim Donor Marketing Manager at NI Hospice, Karen supported the development and implementation of a new strategy and approach to Individuals Giving, the first appeal in this new approach generating 3 times more income than previous appeals, with a return on investment of 1:12.

A CO3 suite of one-day fundraising courses

CO3, in partnership with Roger Courtney and Karen Gallagher, have developed a suite of training programmes focused on building the income generation capacity of leaders within the Third Sector. The training is relevant to those who have responsibility for generating income within their organisation.

Participants can register for all nine modules at a cost of £995 or register for individual modules at a cost of  £130. Each module is a full day of training and will take place at CO3's offices (34 Shaftesbury Square, Belfast, BT2 7DB - map).

Places are limited to a maximum of 15 per course.
