AGE North Down & Ards

 Floating Support
Loneliness and isolation for older people results in them becoming inactive mentally (no-one to talk to) and physically (sitting most of the day) which can lead to mental health problems, trips, falls and broken bones etc.
By providing befriending services and getting people involved in local groups they become more active mentally as they have interaction with others reducing the need for specialist mental health services and physically they become more mobile improving their strength and balance resulting in less likelihood of trips, falls and broken bones resulting in less need for visits to A&E.
By providing some support older people can live independently without having to depend on health and social care if they know an organisation exists that is easy to contact and can provide useful assistance. Sometimes a reassuring phone call is all they need from someone they trust rather than a trip to the doctor or hospital.
