Ecclesiastical has launched the second phase of giving in this year’s Movement for Good awards which will culminate in the specialist insurer awarding £50,000 to ten charities across Ireland and the UK.

The £50,000 awards are open to eligible charities registered in the Republic of Ireland and the UK with an income of less than £5million, which support a cause that we know our communities care about: the advancement of education and skills; citizenship or community development; arts, culture or heritage.

The applications for the £50,000 awards opened on Monday 15 June 2020 and will close on Friday 24 July 2020. The successful charities will be announced from Monday 21 September 2020.

All the information about the second phase of the awards can be found at ecclesiastical.com/movementforgood. It’s here that charities can submit their project application. The page also contains an application guide, containing useful information about the assessment criteria and how each application will be scored.

David Lane, Managing Director of Ecclesiastical Ireland, said: “We have seen an overwhelming public response to our Movement for Good awards during phase one and would like to thank every single person who took the time to nominate a good cause.”

“During phase two of the awards we are actively championing innovation through these £50,000 grants, giving charities the backing they need to propel their plans forward and helping to turn creative ideas into practical solutions that benefit society. And because we know the importance of longer-term funding, especially when trying to bring ambitious new ideas to life, the funding can be spread over several years if needed.”

The Movement for Good awards will see a total of over €1 million given to charities across Ireland and the UK during 2020. During the first phase of the awards, members of the public were invited to nominate causes close to their hearts, with 500 gifts of over €1,000 available for charitable causes throughout the country.

Nine charities based in Northern Ireland have been gifted donations of £1,000 each as part of phase one of the Movement for Good awards. First Housing Aid & Support Services, Via Wings, Journey Community Church, We are Made for More, and The Michaela Foundation are among the charities in Northern Ireland set to benefit from the money, following overwhelming public support across the region. Seventeen further charities based in the Republic of Ireland have also been gifted donations of £1,000 each as part of phase.

In total, an amazing 253,879 people across Ireland and the UK supported the Movement for Good awards during phase one this year, with over 13,695 charitable causes from all areas of both countries receiving nominations. The 500 winning charities were picked at random from those nominated.
