VAT Savings and Forensic Accounting Case Studies with Deloitte

VAT Savings and Forensic Accounting Case Studies with Deloitte
Thursday, June 14, 2018 - 09:30 to 11:30
Deloitte, 19 Bedford Street, Belfast, BT2 7EJ

CO3 is delighted to announce a June breakfast networking event with Deloitte which will highlight two key areas, using real life case studies, where Deloitte has helped bring positive changes and has positively impacted the organisation and its stewards.

This event will be of interest to Chief Executives, Trustees and Senior Managers with a responsibility for financial and risk management.

VAT Saving Ideas for Charities

The first part of the morning will highlight a number of key VAT saving ideas for charities which will be evidenced by Deloitte’s input into the local charity sector.  From the decision of whether or not the organisation should become VAT registered to whether or not VAT must be charged on supplies made to a charity or by a charity.  These decisions can present significant savings for charities.  In addition, tightening internal VAT accounting procedures can also have significant VAT saving benefits for charities, for example, more suitable business/non business apportionments and partial exemption special methods.  For property owning charities, there can also be significant VAT savings where building works are being undertaken.  During the session, we will share VAT saving ideas for construction and refurbishment projects which charities may undertake.

Managing the risk of Fraud

The second part of the morning will allow participants to gain an insight from Deloitte’s experienced forensic accountant on how best to manage your charity against fraud and tips on how to manage the process in the event you suspect fraudulent activity.  In this session you will be presented with a case study, background on how the fraudulent activity arose, Deloitte’s role as Interim Manager on behalf of the Charity Commission and lessons learned that will help prevent similar situations in the future.
